We can assume that by now Netero is 110 years old (from the information given in the episode that he was 50y/o when he came back from his training in solitude, and another 60 years have past since then) This episode was an integral insight into Neteros' past because it is a type of foreshadowing, if you didn't like it then I suggest you stop watching now. Not to Spoil anything for the people who didn't read the manga, but I'd shudder to think what would happen if Netero was in his prime during this mission as opposed to now; when he is well past it.
